| So I was trying to make a list of all the characters I have written in the past five years with any sort of consistency and I found I couldn't do that. It's just too hard. The reason? I have way too many. I love my characters! They're awesome and I enjoy making up more characters. Yeah, someone tell me how that works...
But I don't just randomly kill my characters off, unlike other authors do. In fact, I think I've only killed off a small handful of my characters within the storyline... Shaun Ackerman and there were a few character deaths in a fantasy cross-over piece I wrote back in high school and Kiyoshi Sato. My characters have an excellent survival rate. And, as Sharpe himself pointed out, Ackerman died for a cause. It's not pointless.
I want to know more about my characters, especially the members of the Feconi Order, like Ellie... and Calanon. Calanon's kind of realy important. Ellie's just... interesting... because she's human. And she's the only human on the Feconi Order and she doesn't have anything particularly special or unique about her, other than the fact that she can put up with Bernard (putting up with Sharpe would be a greater feat).

| I desperately need to write something, so I'll be doodling down random ideas about Sharpe... yet again.
Favorite Color: Purple. He has a purple bowtie he wears when he has to get dressed up nicely (and even when he doesn't) and he also has something for purple chalk, as detailed in Snapshots.
Worst Memory: The car accident that his family got into when he was in 8th grade, coming home from the Christmas Eve church service.
Best Memory: He'll say it was the first time he passed one of Dr. Shasthri's exams.
Fears: Bad weather storms, jellyfish, losing control of himself. Especially the last of the three. Also not being able to do what needs to get done.
Hardest Class in School: Thermodynamics with Dr. Shasthri. Unfortunately, she also taught the class he took for quantem mechanics, so he had her for more than one class... she makes her exams notoriously difficult.
Favorite Class: Applications of Chemistry in the Biological World. Basically biochemistry stuff. *ugh*
Favorite Professor: Oddly enough, he really enjoyed Dr. Shasthri for the most part... she was his faculty advisor in university. Yes, she is Kiran's aunt. No, Kiran does not know this, but Sharpe does.
Personal Motto: Ignis Aurum Probat or in its English translation, fire refines gold.
Notable Possessions: A handcarved wooden chess piece (black king), the purple bowtie, his pointy stick (which he uses to get the attention of students by whacking it against the chalkboard)
Enemies: Tetsuya Takahashi, Peter Screwtape, seemingly everyone...
Allies: Uknown, but likely Candace Pruitt, Josiah Alton, Hugh Avery
Home: It's detailed in Snapshots chapter five, but he lives in a modest apartment not too far from Riverdale High. The rooms are characterized by being dimly lit and there is a notable lack of photographs and memorabilia on the walls.
Moral Code: He has little problem with lying to do what needs to be done and chooses to pick what he deems as the lesser of two evils. His morals are rather subjective, in that while believing that killing is wrong, he was about to offer Kiyoshi Sato help to committ suicide. His entire life ends up being a lie, but a necessary one.

| So, Emiko's one of the most... erm, interesting characters I have. In fact, she's probably the most annoying character I have, but that's a bit beside the point. I'm really looking forward to developing her and seeing where she goes because I know it will be interesting and likely unexpected.
Her real origin was in an AU piece where she got into lots of fights and the only person who had ever beaten her in a fight was Evan Saunders. Before that, it was mentioned that Tatiana Valdez had at least one other girl with whom she spent time, but neither a name nor any attributes were ever given. I'm pretty sure this would be Emiko.
Things tend to get messy when one goes between the Alternate Universe and the Canon Universe. Just remember that only the top section is part of the Canon Universe (CU) and the rest is the Alternate Universe (AU).
Name: Emiko Takahashi DOB: April 27, 1989 Family: Tetsuya Takahashi (father), Stephanie Rei (mother, divorced), Hana Rei (half-sister) Ethnicity: Japanese Home: Silicon Valley, California, USA School/Year of Graduation: Riverdale High School, Class of 2007 Homeroom Instructor: J. Victor Sharpe Friends: Tatiana Valdez, Ricardo Martinez, Hideaki Sato* Enemies: Evan Saunders, Michael Liu, Samantha and Scott Adams, Marie Wilson Clothing: Pink and black. Has a goth/punk flair to her clothing, often short shorts or skirts, tank-tops. Pushes the dress code. Tattoos/Piercings: Has a tattoo on her left shoulder with the kanji symbol for "justice". Ears are each pierced twice at the bottom and her left ear is pierced once at the top. Height/Weight: Five foot, five inches. 140 pounds. Hair: Straight. Naturally black, reaches down to the middle of her back. Slightly bleached. Skin: Light with olive-yellow undertones. Eyes: Almond-shaped, dark brown. Strengths: Physical fighting, sarcasm, being noticed, expressing her emotions, can be very caring when she wants to be, holds to her moral principles (as messed up as they are!) Weaknesses: Letting others get close to her, schoolwork (she gets bored easily), doesn't think before she acts, impulsive, pugnacious Likes: PE class, ska music, ice skating, hanging out with friends at the mall, movies, debate club, online gaming, Japanese culture Dislikes: science class, homerooms, Evan Saunders, politics, her father's work, homework, going to the library, Japanese school Fears: her father, the unknown, Evan Saunders History: Emiko was born to Tetsuya Takahashi and Stephanie Rei Takahashi in April of 1989. Tetsuya and Stephanie were divorced shortly thereafter. She lived a fairly normal childhood life and was raised by a series of caretakers, as her father's job in politics allowed him little time to be at home. She started Riverdale High as a freshman in the fall of 2003.
In the Alternate Universe... Alias: Tem (aka Tatiana Eleanor Merquet) Powers: Time-porting, controling time Alignment: Unknown Affiliations: Feconi Order, Independent Allies: Aurum, Isaiah and Jeremiah Lewis, Ellie Enemies: Calanon, Aurum, Argentia, Walter Nym Brief History: Tem has time-ported herself all throughout history, observing and causing mischief wherever she can. She's seen almost everything that can be seen and if it wasn't for the strict rules that have been outlined for her as far as meddling goes (by the High Council), let's just say history wouldn't be the same. She's most infamous for teleporting Isaiah and Jeremiah Lewis back in time in an attempt to keep the Black Plague from ever reaching England, which resulted in a furious Calanon stripping her of her powers and her being thrown out of the Feconi Order. And that's where we find her today, living on Earth as a human... Oh, and her relationship with Aurum is quite complicated.
Nota Bene: The Feconi Order is a group of AU characters, which includes (but isn't limited to) Calanon, Argentia, Quayle, Bernard, Ellie and Tem (at one point). Their job is to keep the order in the universe and between different worlds. Known Members of the Feconi Order: And actually, I'll go into these characters more in a separate entry... Calanon: He's the one who is able to give and take away special powers, like Tem's ability to control time. Argentia: Calanon's younger half-sister and the champion of lost-causes. Quayle: A healer and the Head of the High Council. His job is to oversee everything. Bernard: He lives incognito in our world as a human and constantly feeds Quayle information updates and reports on what's going on. Ellie: Bernard's personal assistant. She's actually human and doesn't appear to have any superpowers.
Other Characters: Aurum: A double-agent of sorts. His story deserves an entry to itself. Walter Nym Members of the Fellowship (plus Hideaki) Kiran Shasthri

| I was thinking about this the other night and so many of my characters originated in the alternate universe at one point or another. I'm going to make a list and see how many I can name. Most of these are characters who have stayed around, I guess.
Many of these characters should be somewhat recongnizeable... I hope.
Michael Liu: Michael was one of the original kids who went on the Digit Island adventures. I started this story back when I was in junior high or early high school sometime. Michael's always been the cautious one of the group. His character has stayed relatively consistent compared with the others. Scott Adams: Scott was the leader of the Digit Island group. Originally he was unsure of himself, severely afraid of heights and he's changed quite a bit. He's always been really close friends with Michael, but other than that, Scott's changed a lot. Samantha Adams: She wasn't always Scott's twin sister, but she was one of the Digit Island kids. She has always retained her love of storytelling and has always been close to Michael and Scott. Nathaniel "Nate" Winters: Another one of the Digit Island kids with bright red hair, freckles and green eyes, Nate was once the fast talking techie of the group. He still loves all things technological and he's developed into being Scott and Samantha's cousin who also happens to have a penchant for getting into and out of trouble. Kiran Shasthri: Kiran was once a girl who went to a small boarding school and now she's one of Nate's close friends. Recently, she's come to stay as an exchange student with the Liu family for a semester during her sophomore year of high school. Hideaki Sato: I figured I should mention Hideaki here. He was originally from the alternate universe... it was a story where the kids from Digit Island (Scott, Sam, Michael, Nate, Jose and I sent Kiran and Tem along too...) and he originally was living in Japan. He is Japanese. Well, half. And then I decided that Tem needed to stay in the alternate universe, but that's a story in itself. Callisto Verity: A twelve-year-old girl with bright shocks of purple hair that got dyed on accident. Yeah. She's sarcastic, loves to read and learn, annoying and tends to challenge the authority of anyone and everyone she can. She kind of straddles both universes (odd position that would be...), but in the canon universe, she's the best friend of Elizabeth Liu's pen-pal, Hana Rei. Donovan Isaacs: Donovan is every bit as odd as Callisto is and they attend school together. He's an American living in the UK with his cousins, so not much is known about his connection to the other characters. He is originally from Arizona, not far from where Sophie McAllistair lives. Emiko Takahashi: Emiko's first appearance was in a piece surrounding strange happenings at RHS (non-canon) where it was mentioned she and Evan Saunders got into a physical fight with one another. In this particular piece, she was seen lying on the floor of the chemistry lab, half-dead after an accident. Tetsuya Takahashi: Believe it or not, he was also the product of an AU piece (same as where Emiko was from) and he crossed into the canon fairly easily. Sharpe mentions he's a politician with powerful ways of convincing others to see his viewpoints and their history just fell into place from there. Aislynn Celeste: Aislynn's the afterschool math tutor at RHS who also happens to be a graduate student at the local university. I'm really not sure what to say about her, other than the fact that her hair is a different color everyday, she speaks fluent French (and English) and she manages to annoy the heck out of some of the other faculty members. She's from Canada. Septimus "Seven" McAllistair: Simply referred to as Seven, Septimus McAllistair is a computer geek with an eidetic memory. When he was young, he had a computer chip implanted in his brain as a part of a scientific study to help a group of scientists trying to discover mechanisms by which people remember things in an attempt to assist people with memory loss. He's almost emotionless and naive to the point of being annoying. He surfaces from Seattle, WA and is likely related in some way to Sophie McAllistair. He has yet to cross into the canon universe and is really the only character here who hasn't, as I'm still trying to iron out details with him. Other Characters: Ming-Yue Tam (Kiran's best friend), George Kepler, Connor and Emrick and Lucy Page, Hana Rei, Jose Ramirez, Rem and Seneca Argentium, Elizabeth and Andy Liu (who are based loosely off of Mark and Emily Anderson, characters I had from when I was really young)...

| I was thinking about how all my characters are interrelated either by blood or by marriage (or just by knowing each other in odd ways) and I decided to make a table of who was related to whom by familial connections. These are the people who actually are related, not just people who know each other. These are some of the ones I came up with on short notice...
I'm putting this behind a cut because it's a little long and because there are some spoilers, particularly when you get closer to the bottom of the list. The place in parentheses is where the family is located. Western USA encompasses anything in America west of about Colorado, particularly Phoenix (Arizona), Silicon Valley (California) and Seattle (Washington).( Read more... )All everything else is up to change. A good portion of these names and people are established in various portions of Snapshots Through Time. Italicised names are subject to change and have not been established in canon of any sort.

| Between not sleeping at all on Saturday night and then being insanely tired on Sunday, I found I wanted to write something. Because of my lack of sleep, it turned out rather interesting... just as everything tends to do under those conditions. I was actually watching a movie when I wrote this, but paying more attention to writing than the movie (funny thing I don't even remember what movie I had on at the time!). I'd love to continue this piece on further. Let me know what you think. It's behind the cut because of the warnings. Characters: Mr. Sharpe, Hideaki Sato, Shaun Ackerman Rating: PG Warnings: Character Death, Alternate Universe Disclaimer: Characters belong to me. I wrote this on a lack of sleep, so it should be interesting. ( Read more... ) | |

| The girl watched him from afar for several moments. He was eating his sandwich with careful bites, pausing periodically to wipe his left hand on the cloth napkin he kept resting on his lap. He appeared far too thin for his age, but definately not starved. She leaned forward in her chair, still pretending to work on her homework for Professor G's class. Out of her peripheral vision, she spotted two other students, these only slightly older than she was, talking about what classes they would take next term. She sighed. As a second year student at the Academy, her class schedule was dictated by her advisor.
From across the room, she spotted two other students. Neither was talking and the dark-haired boy was busy snogging the red-headed girl. It hardly mattered that this particular couple had been dating for most of the school year, nor that they were both a good few years older than she was. If the Headmistress found out, there would be trouble for all involved. However, she could hardly care less what any of the faculty members said right now. The girl had greater problems to deal with as she picked up a knight from the chess set that was left behind in the common room. One of the corners was chipped off its ear and it felt rough against her dry skin. She looked up and made eye contact wiht the boy whom she had been watching eat for a brief second, then her glance fell back down tot he grey plush carpet below her stockinged feet.
There was something about that pale-faced boy who seemed so alone all the time. She couldn't quite place her finger on it, but there was something about his demeanor that stirred a deep sense of pity for him. She followed the line his fingers made as they traced along the hem of the jacket he was wearing and sighed. It seemed everyone else sitting in the common room today came with a friend. Except for him. And except for her. She tilted her head to the side, letting her violet hair fall into her face for a moment before pushing her body into a standing position. Cautiously, she walked over to the boy and her hazel eyes met his blue ones.
"Can I sit with you?" Subconsciously, a hand reached into her pocket, but she felt nothing. The older boy was looking at her, as if awaiting for her to continue with what she was about to say. "I... I don't have any friends." Not exactly the truth, but it wasn't far from a lie, either. She and Ali weren't speaking to one another and nor was she in any mood to talk to Hana or Emrick. "I'm Callisto. Maybe will you be my friend. I don't think you have very many friends, either. That's why you're all alone, isn't it?" Without waiting for the boy to reply, she sat down in the couch that was positioned across the coffeetable from the boy's chair and waited.

| I don't know what it is with me, but I've hardly been inspired to write recently. Or rather, I've hardly made the time to write is more like it. It's such a sad thing because I have ideas of how to develop characters (or rather pick on them!) and tidbits in my mind about little nuances that turn into plot bunnies and run rampant throughout the lush forest of my mind, waiting for some disgraced hunter to come and capture them, skin them and eat them for dinner.
Okay, maybe not literally. The mental image I got with that idea was about like that of Sam and Gollum during the scene where Sam's trying to cook dinner for him and Frodo... and Gollum brings back a few rabbits and proceeds to eat one alive. Not the best picture.
Le sigh. I'm trying to continue my Once Upon an Alternate Universe piece with Sharpe, the entire Fellowship, Emiko Takahashi, Tetsuya, Kiran and just about anyone and everyone else who comes to mind. Characters like Nate Winters, Aislynn Celeste and quite possibly Callisto Verity might be making appearances eventually. Who knows? I'm still trying to figure out how everyone is connected.
